Materials for producing tights – what fabrics provide comfort and durability?
When choosing tights, we often focus on the color, pattern or thickness, forgetting about what is most important - what material they are made of. It is the composition of tights that determines whether they will be durable, pleasant to the skin and suitable for a given season. Both natural and synthetic fibers are available on the market, which differ in their properties and applications. It is worth knowing what the individual names on the label mean and how to choose tights for your needs.
Polyamide – the most commonly used synthetic fiber in the production of tights. It is light, smooth and very durable. Tights with a high polyamide content are elastic, resistant to pulling, adhere well to the body and have an elegant appearance. They are suitable for both everyday use and special occasions.
Elastane (also known as Lycra or spandex) – is a fiber responsible for the stretchability and fit of tights to the body. Even a small addition (e.g. 5–10%) makes the tights comfortable, does not slip and holds well at the waist. Elastane gives the fabric elasticity and increases comfort of wearing.
Polyester – a synthetic fiber resistant to stretching and changing weather conditions. It dries very quickly, making it great for cold days and physical activity. Tights with a polyester blend are often chosen as winter or sports models – comfortable, durable and practical.
Cotton – a natural fiber known for its breathability and gentleness to the skin. Cotton tights are soft, comfortable and ideal for everyday wear – especially in the warmer months. They also work great in models for children and women with sensitive skin.
Viscose – a plant-based material, often called artificial silk. Viscose tights are soft, delicate and very pleasant to the touch. They will work well if you want a subtle structure and an elegant look.
Wool – a classic for winter. Wool tights are an excellent protection against the cold – they are warm, breathable and naturally regulate temperature. Ideal for frosty days, especially in the version with an admixture of elastane, which increases their elasticity.
Microfiber – although it is not a separate fiber, but a mixture (mainly polyamide and elastane), deserves attention. Microfiber tights are smooth, matte, soft and opaque – ideal for colder days and office styling.
